BY MICHAEL VELOH,
DELTA state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Comrade Titus Okotie has called on all teachers to be united and fight with one voice in other to achieve their aims and goals in the teaching profession.
This call was made when the executive of a political pressure group, Delta Teachers in Politics, DTP, led by Comrade Andrew Darah paid a courtesy visit to the state chairman at Oteri-Ughelli community in Ughelli North local government area of the state.
According to Okotie, “The formation or coming together of ‘Delta Teachers in Politics’ group like this is long overdue because as teachers, we cannot be used everytime and been dumped.
“As teachers, we have what it takes to govern this state if we are united and as an individual, you can belong to any political party and we can negotiate for the success of teacher with unity.
Speaking further, Okotie charged the group never to allow selfish interest to override the collective interest of the group. Do away with personal and self aggrandizement and be focused.
“I will work with you as a group to make sure you achieve your dreams, goals and objectives without rancour because if we have our people in place of governance, the interest of teachers would be guaranteed.”
Earlier in his address, State Coordinator of the group, Comrade Andrew Darah said, “The aim of this social political group is to create awareness among members and teachers in particular.
“To help government achieve the educational policies of the state, work with professional body of the teaching profession for the purpose of promoting teachers.
“This group is cut across all strata of educational institution in Delta state with special reference to teachers in primary and post primary educational institutions.
“We believed strongly that the collection of our Permanent Voters Card, PVC, before election will play a great role in ensuring good leadership as it will prepare teachers irrespective of their ethnicity, religious and educational background to ascend various political positions in government”.

This is a nice one indeed. It’s right time teachers voices are heard in politics as a unified voice. It will greatly help to stir up attention and more support to the Education sector. Thanks
Putting together group like this is a welcome development
